Mamata Mohandas was born on 14 November, 1985 in Bahrain. Mamta was born and brought up in Bahrain. Mamata attended the Indian School, Bahrain till 2002. Mamata first became a model and did a Bachelor's degree at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Even during school days, Mamata was a popular singer.

Mamata started her career in Malayalam film ‘Mayookaham’ in 2002, but it did not do well at the box office. In 2006, Mamata next film was ‘Sivappathigaram’ (Tamil). It turned out an average grosser only.Besides acting, Mamta is known as an acclaimed playback singer in Indian films as well. Mamata sung for the films ‘Rakhee’, ‘Shankaradada Jindabad’, ‘Chandamama’ ‘Yamadonga’ and ‘Krishnarjuna’. For the film, ‘Rakhee’ title song, Mamata won the 2007 Film fare Best Telugu Female Playback Singer Award for that song.

Mamta once wanted to become a motorbike racer because of her love for speed and her interest in motorcycle riding. Mamata loves to race in open roads at over 200 km/h on her Honda CBR 1000RR motorcycle.In 2007, Mamata entered in to tollywood film industry with the movie ‘Yamadonga’, it became one of the biggest hits of the year. She had lent her voice for a couple of songs in this film too.In 2008, Mamata appeared in 7 films, predominantly in Telugu-language films. Those movies are ‘Krishnarjuna’, ‘Victory’, ‘Homam’, ‘Chitakayal Ravi’ and ‘King’. In 2009, Mamata starred in one Telugu movie, which is ‘Kedi’.

Mamata’s Upcoming movies are ‘Anwar’ (Malayalam), ‘Musafir’ (Malayalam), ‘Singaravlan’ (Malayalam), and ‘Aadi Bhagavan’ (Tamil).
